Some countries charge a Mobile Termination Charge (MTC) or Mobile Access Charge (MAC). This is a charge levied by the local operators to access their networks. See our coverage list for where incoming call charges apply. With GeoSIM, you can avoid MTC/MAC charges, and even make calls where we have no coverage. Here's how.....
Your GeoSIM online account is part of a "Centralised Communications Hub". Calls can be initiated in a number of ways, one of which is the GeoSIM global SIM card, others include SMS and email. Lets say you are in the USA where a MAC is levied for any incoming charges on GeoSIM. To avoid these charges, you need to have a SIM that is local to the US. This means that you won't be roaming therefore you won't pay the high MAC charges for incoming and outgoing calls.
The result, is a call using your GeoSIM account balance with no Roaming* or MAC charge! GeoSIM will still work normally in the countries with an MAC if you do not use a local SIM.
The great thing about GeoSIM is that you can forward calls made to GeoSIM to anywhere in the world, to either a land line or mobile. So, you simply forward any incoming call to your GeoSIM, on to your Local SIM you have in your handset, which is not liable to a MAC charge. This means your friends and family only need to call your GeoSIM number and not your local number. There is a small forwarding charge from GeoSIM to your local SIM and a few landlines. See the call cost calculator for more information...
Similarly to the SMS Callback, a call can be initiated by sending an email to our server. All you have to do, is register your email address in your GeoSIM online account as one that can initiate a call. Then send an email with the "to" address simply as the phone number you wish to call. E.g. call@our_server_name. Your phone will then ring and you will be connected to the person you are calling.
*Note that there will be a small charge to send the SMS to our SMS gateway by the company you have purchased the SIM from. Some countries do charge for inbound calls even though you are not roaming. However, these are really very small charges compared with the MAC charges.
