Abandoned International SIM Card Customers Offered Lifeline By GeoSIM Global SIM Card
21st February 2007
BRUSSELS (MarketWatch) -- Consumer watchdog groups Tuesday alleged that mobile phone operators haven't truly reduced international roaming charges as promised, fail to give complete information to their national regulators and falsely claim that reducing roaming charges will hurt revenue and investment.
"Contrary to industry claims, there is no evidence of a reduction in roaming charges for consumers in recent times," the groups' statement reads, complaining that companies' promotional plans act as "smokescreens"and are "very complex, difficult to use, and have no appreciable effect on charges overall." Mobile phone operators also fail to give enough detailed information about the costs of roaming to regulators, which "makes it easier for operators to exaggerate the impact of price controls," the statement reads. more >>

A recent online poll of business men and women, commisioned by Geodesa, the distributor of GeoSIM Global SIM card, showed that 19% of mobile phone users do not use their mobile abroad due to high charges.
The Geodesa Poll asked entrepreneurs and business folk a few key questions regarding the use of mobile phones abroad. Although not strictly scientific, the poll gave a snap shot of people's views on Mobile phone charges abroad..
What was the cost of your Mobile Phone bill the last time you used your mobile abroad?
| The same as my UK mobile bill | 5% |
| About double my UK mobile bill | 29% |
| About Four times my UK mobile bill | 19% |
| Similar to a car load payment! | 0% |
| Similar to a mortgage payment! | 14% |
| I'm too embarrassed to admit! | 0% |
| I don't use my mobile abroad because it's too expensive | 19% |
| I didn't know you can avoid paying high Roaming Charges to reduce call costs | 14% |
Geodesa Director, Ed Neal commented that the results were interesting in that it showed around 50% of people either restricted or stopped using their phone abroad due to high roaming charges. "Such restrictions can't be good for business" Ed said. "We need to communicate to do business, but if prohibitive call costs mean people don't talk, then there must be a knock on effect to business productivity and profitability. GeoSIM's savings are real and tangible, but the cost in not doing business efficiently and effectively is virtually immeasurable".
